MPs yesterday approved the seventh modification of the 2013 budget, increasing the budget deficit target by Ft 171 billion to Ft 1.050 trillion. The bill raises projected budget revenues to Ft 15.325 trillion and total projected spending to Ft 16.376 trillion.

Hungarian Parliament Raises Teachers’ Salaries, Hours

Parliament on Monday amended a 2011 law on education to reflect the fact that the government will raise teachers’ salaries by only 60% of the originally planned amount from September. The new law abolishes overtime pay and raises the number of mandatory teaching hours from 22 to 26 each week.
Hungarian Cabinet Submits Bill On Expanding Teachers Salary Increase

The cabinet on Wednesday submitted to Parliament a proposal on extending the salary raise for teachers, to be passed by the House at a special session next week. Fidesz caucus leader Antal Rogan announced on August 6 that he would initiate the convening of a special session of Parliament for August 26-27 to approve changes related to the salary raise of teachers.

The Debrecen Court of Appeals on Monday upheld a Miskolc Court’s conviction of three police officers of forceful interrogation and other crimes in 2009. Two of the three police officers in Mezõkövesd, Borsod county were given suspended 16-month prison terms, while the third was fined Ft 375,000 for forgery of public documents.
