Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
The Day’s theme for 2016 is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”
Szijjártó: EU - Canada Free Trade Deal ‘Uncertain’

It continues to be uncertain if the free trade agreement between the European Union and Canada could be signed next week as planned, the Hungarian foreign minister said on Tuesday. Speaking after a meeting of foreign and trade ministers of the EU, Péter Szijjártó said that several countries had voiced doubt about the agreement.

China’s BYD will build its first electric bus plant in Komárom, in northern Hungary, the foreign minister announced at a press conference in Budapest on Monday. The 6.2 billion forint (EUR 20.4m) project includes Hungarian government support of 925 million forints, Péter Szijjártó said.

Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós visited Montreal as part of a Hungarian Week organised there. Tarlós prepared plans with the local mayor Denis Coderre to sign a twinning agreement between their cities next year. The mayors attended the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in Montreal for the 1956 anti-Soviet Hungarian revolution and freedom fight.

With effect of today, Taira-Julia Lammi has been appointed Country Managing Director of ABB Hungary. In her new position, she is going to focus on supporting further growth of ABB Hungary, and implementing transformation based on ABB Group’s Next Level Strategy. Taira-Julia Lammi succeeds Tanja Vainio who was nominated to Country Managing Director of ABB in the Czech Republic.

The waste collection ship Tersus, designed to collect refuse from ships on the Danube, has begun operations, it was announced at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday. Gábor Spányi, chief executive of Mahart PassNave, said the shipping company had spent €200,000 on implementing the project.

Hungary’s opposition LMP party has called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to declare that he does not support the TTIP trade agreement between the European Union and the United States. Péter Ungár, a party spokesman, said that the putative free-trade agreement had been dead in the water since the very beginning and was against Hungarian interests.
