The first Budapest Circus Festival was held 20 years ago, in 1996 and as a result of the notion and casting of the professionals of the Hungarian Circus And Variety Non-profit Ltd. (MACIVA) it soon proved to be equal with the great festivals of the circus world: in addition to Monte Carlo, Latina and Moscow also Budapest has become an important meeting place for the circus art.

Eduard Habsburg-Lothringen, Hungary’s new ambassador to the Holy See, presented his credentials to Pope Francis, the deputy head of mission at the Hungarian embassy said. Habsburg-Lothringen had an 18-minute private conversation with Pope Francis, which is considered unusually long by the standards of Vatican protocol.

Amnesty International (AI) has criticised the Hungarian government’s migration policies and made proposals on measures in its latest report released in London. Hungary’s attempts to insulate itself against a regional and wider global refugee crisis can only be achieved at the expense of its respect for international human rights and refugee law obligations.
Hungary’s Former President Árpád Göncz Dies Aged 93

Árpád Göncz, Hungary’s first postcommunist president who held office between 1990 and 2000, has died at the age of 93. Parliament observed a minute of silence, while the government paid tribute to Göncz in a statement of condolences, saying that as the first head of state of a free democratic Hungary, Göncz had “served his ten years in office to the best of his ability”.
