Applicants looking to take advantage of the government’s home purchase subsidy scheme signed contracts worth a record 9.6 billion forints (EUR 30.8m) in December, a state secretary for the prime minister’s cabinet office said. Altogether 36,000 applications have been received since the programme’s introduction in 2015, totalling 87 billion forints, Csaba Dömötör said.

The OECD lowered its projection for Hungary’s GDP growth next year to 2.5 percent in volume terms in a forecast published on Monday from the 3.1 percent in the previous Economic Outlook released in June 2016. The OECD however improved its 1.6 percent summer projection for Hungary’s growth this year to 1.7 percent in the autumn edition of the World Economic Outlook.

Introduced at the beginning of 2016, to date some HUF 56 billion (USD 207 million) worth of new housing subsidies have been paid out to some 27,000 families according to Katalin Novák, undersecretary for family, youth, and international matters at the Ministry for Human Resources.
