Hungary has reached another new milestone. As of Sunday, only four radio stations will broadcast nationally in Hungary, all of them state-run. Not since 1991 has radio been so one-sided, reports kreativ.hu.

All staff members employed by FM1, operator of radio station Neo FM, resigned Monday morning with immediate effect due to unpaid wages. The staff also cited “a situation with no future prospects created by the new owner, the existing circumstances and the owner’s future vision,” the station’s former news director Attila Berényi announced on behalf of the 26 employees.

FM1 Kommunikációs, operator of radio channel Neo FM, has sought bankruptcy protection because its short-term operations have became untenable, CEO Ádám Földes announced on Monday. “This does not mean that the station wants to leave unpaid debt or does not want to continue broadcasting,” Földes underlined.
