The National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (Országos Mezőgazdasági és Élelmiszeripari Kiállítás, in short OMÉK), which is the biggest agricultural exhibition in Hungary, has a long running tradition that goes back to more than 100 years. Negative coverage in the media of the migrant crisis in Hungary is impacting the country’s tourism industry, daily Magyar Idők said. A number of hotels have reported a drop in reservations for the first and second weeks of October, the chairman of the Hungarian Hotel and Restaurant Association told the paper.

Hungary Reassures Tourists On Security

A top tourism official has issued reassurances that Hungary remains safe and that local authorities can guarantee the security of all tourists who arrive in the country. Deputy state secretary for tourism Ádám Ruszinkó told reporters in front of Saint Stephen’s Basilica, in the city centre, that Budapest’s tourist attractions are far from areas affected by the refugee crisis.
