Police stopped a total of 2,858 illegal border crossers in Hungary this past weekend, the national police (ORFK) told MTI. The ORFK reported on its website that it had launched proceedings against two individuals for human smuggling and ten for forgery of official documents. The majority of illegal border crossers were caught in the southern portion of Csongrád County, local police said.

Roma are being prevented from boarding flights from Budapest to Canada since direct connections were re-established two weeks ago, according to president Mihály Dancs of the Roma Civil Rights Movement. The would-be travellers have valid tickets, and most also have letters of invitation, although Canada does not impose a visa requirement on Hungarians, Dancs pointed out.

This year’s MasterCard Balaton Sound attracted the same record number of visitors as it did last year. A total of 145 000 fans from almost 60 countries came together to celebrate at the sunny shores of Lake Balaton. The festival even had a sold-out day on Saturday, when more than 35 000 visitors enjoyed Faithless and Afrojack.
