The Bridging Europe arts festival will focus on German culture during its four-day programme starting on Sept. 10 this year. The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. Turkey and Finnish author Sofi Oksanen will be guests of honour at this year’s Budapest International Book Fair taking place next month, the event’s director said on Tuesday. Turkey, to be a guest of honour country at the fair for the first time, will set up a 150-square-metre stand and present works by authors, the Turkish ambassador told a press conference for the fair.

Back then, Hungary, particularly Lake Balaton, was a popular summer destination for tourists from East Germany and other parts of the eastern bloc but a little off the beaten path for most others.
