The average unemployment rate was 6.4% among Hungarians aged between 15 and 74 in July-September, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Hungary’s employment figures have improved substantially since the second half of 2013, the state secretary in charge of employment said, commenting on the European Commission’s latest report on Hungary. According to fresh data, 66,000 new jobs have been created and the jobless rate stands around 7-8% now for more than six consecutive months, Sándor Czomba told public news channel M1.

Hungary’s middle classes have thinned during the period of 2001 to 2011, according to a new Central Statistical Office (KSH) study. Ákos Huszár, one of the study’s editors, said data revealed that the share of highprestige professionals, top executives and middle management in the whole population had risen while so had the share of unskilled workers and those at the brim of society.

Hungary’s economic growth is forecast to slow down in 2015 and in 2016 while its 2014 budget deficit is likely to be lower than the target, the European Commission said in its winter forecast.
