The Shepards dedicate their work to the memory of their son Matthew who was killed in an anti-gay hate crime in 1998 and seek to promote understanding and acceptance through education, outreach and advocacy programs.

The 7th Budapest Pride March, an event which boasts a long history, took place in Budapest in early July. The first organized LGBTI film festival (1993) was preceeded by a picnic in 1992. The significant traditions of the Pride Festival have gradually intertwined with film and other artistic programmes.

"Amnesty International welcomes the decision by the Budapest Metropolitan Court on 18 February, overturning a police resolution of 11 February that banned the Budapest Pride march. The march had been scheduled for 18 June 2011, and was banned following an attempt by the organizers to extend the march’s route.
