Marriage Week in Hungary: 80% of Children Born in Wedlock
Eight out of ten children in Hungary are born to married parents, the minister of culture and innovation said in Gödöllő on Sunday, attributing the trend to the government's family policies.

Speaking at an event for Marriage Week organised by the TwoGether (KetIgen) Foundation on the outskirts of Budapest, Balazs Hanko said the government regarded the family as "the fundamental building block of society" and was committed to supporting it.

He cited a 31 percent rise in marriages since 2010, from 35,000 to 46,000 last year, with a sharper increase during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Divorces have fallen by 26 percent over the same period, from 24,000 to 18,000, he added.

Noting that the theme of this year's Marriage Week is "The Freedom of Fidelity", Hanko highlighted the government's partnership with organisations like the TwoGether Foundation, which offers relationship workshops and counselling to help couples strengthen their bonds and avoid separation.

The foundation describes its work as "an investment in a long-lasting, happy relationship".
