Hungarian Govt, Unions, Employers Reach Deal On Minimum Wages

The economy ministry reached an agreement with three employer associations and two trade unions on the monthly minimum wages for skilled and unskilled workers, state secretary Péter Cseresznyés said. Under the agreement, the monthly minimum wage for unskilled workers next year will rise to gross 111,000 forints (EUR 353.6) and skilled workers will get 129,000 forints (EUR 411).

More than one-third of Hungarians are xenophobic, but hostility to outsiders is no greater now than it was in 2014, according to a recent survey by pollsters Tárki. Tárki senior researcher Endre Sik told Népszabadság that xenophobia is high, but was not increased by the government’s anti-refugee national consultation and poster campaign, nor the influx of migrants.
