Fans of J.K. Rowling will remember that a Common Welsh Dragon featured in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, the fourth book of her immensely popular series. That dragon was green in colour, but the dragon on the flag flying outside the British Embassy today is a vibrant red.

Hungarian Contemporary Author Receives American Literary Lifetime Achievement Award

Hungarian contemporary author László Krasznahorkai has been granted the lifetime achievement America Awards for 2014, the US literary portal Green Integer said on Thursday. The author of 16 books has received the honour granted since 1994 for a lifetime contribution to international writing.

The Hungarian government has decided to launch of program worth over HUF 100 million to popularize reading literature. An international survey on media consumption has found that Hungarians spend over 6.5 hours reading books but nearly a third of the under-25 Hungarians never touch a book.

The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is touring the United States; there will be a concert to help elderly musicians who are stewards of traditions; a new full-size program featuring dances from Sub-Carpathia will be compiled; and decision has been made to expand the Museum of Applied Folk Art. We have interviewed László Kelemen, director-general of the Hungarian Heritage House in Budapest.
