Audiences attending the Budapest Sziget Festival between the 6th and 11th of August anticipate the stellar musical performances the island is known for. However, this year, English-speaking festival-goers can also look forward to an exciting display of Slam Poetry, freshly performed every night of the festival from 19:45.

The Underground Slam Academy has invited an international and diverse team of poets to perform on the theme: “it’s high-time to set ourselves free” (In: Homeland, Attila József, poet, 1905-37, HU).

Some of these artists have reached global acclaim, including 4 European champions: Marie Darah (Belgium), Péter Molnár (Hungary), Nuno Piteira (Portugal), Joonas Veelmaa (Estonia), alongside 10 other national champions and other slammers from the Budapest scene.

These short slams will follow in quick succession to create a team effect, allowing the audience to hear from a wide range of voices. The event is open to all, to find a seat in The Joker tent, to take break from the loud stages, and to experience poetry straight from the heart, speaking to the core of Sziget - the Island of Freedom.
