A court in Kaposvár has rejected the registration of a company called Ledina Kerámia established by the local council of Pécs, in southern Hungary, to take over the operation of renowned porcelain maker Zsolnay if it goes under liquidation, a spokesperson for the court told MTI.

The state-owned Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) will initiate a liquidation procedure against renowned porcelain maker Zsolnay if it fails to comply with the repayment schedule on a 413 million forint (EUR 1.3m) loan that matured last August, daily Népszabadság said on Monday.

Hungarian porcelain maker Zsolnay Porcelánmanufaktúra has reacted angrily to a government decree which declared the company of “elevated strategic importance” as defined by the bankruptcy act. They said the company is neither insolvent nor bankrupt, adding that they traced signs of “an intent for a hostile takeover” in recent weeks.
