Fundraising Swim Across Balaton By British Ambassador To Hungary

British Ambassador to Hungary Jonathan Knott is preparing for a charity swim across the Lake Balaton. The high ranking UK diplomat will swim 5200 meters from Révfülöp to Balatonboglár on 6 July with the aim of raising funds for the Hungarian National Lifesavers Service Association (VMSZ) and its British sister agency, the Royal National Lifesavers Institute (RNLI).

I’m a big sports fan. So when the CEO of a British company asked if I’d like to go to a football match in which the Hungarian team they sponsor was playing in I said yes straight away. I’ve been in Hungary a year now and I hadn’t been to a game – and this looked like a golden opportunity.

Mike Kelly is one half of the Madhouse Theatre Company, which has been entertaining audiences here in Hungary for the past ten years. On 21 April 2010 the Merlin Theatre Budapest will stage a unique charity event by presenting the popular play 'One Set To Love' to help with Cancer research. Just a few days after that Mr. Kelly will run a marathon for the same good cause.
