Two-thirds of the 1,149 Hungarians laid off at the Nokia plant in Komárom, in north-west Hungary, which will shut down at the end of this month, have already found work. Fully 68 companies advertising 3,700 openings had participated at a job fair for the laid off workers in September.

Hungary’s annual consumer price index was negative 0.4% in October, slowing from a 0.5% decline in September. Emerging market analysts in London had put the October index between -0.1% and -0.3%. In a month-on-month comparison, consumer prices fell 0.3 % in October, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said.

The revenue gained from the public health tax dubbed fat tax totalled more than 55 billion forints (EUR 178m) since its introduction, Magyar Nemzet daily said on Thursday. The tax on “unhealthy” food and drinks with high sugar, salt, carbohydrate and caffeine content was introduced in September 2011.
