Small boys learn this rhyme when they are still in the kindergarten, and they sing it to girls on Easter Monday, and then promptly 'sprinkle' them - without waiting for an answer to the poem:
"Through the greenwood going
I saw a blue violet growing
I saw it start to wither
Can I water this flower?"

The first large scale St. George's Day event in Budapest raised over HUF 2 million for charity, entertaining a full house with a feast of English music, a funny take on a Shakespeare piece, and a great variety of refreshments, games, prizes, + dancing.

Local Easter eggs are decorated with simple geometric shapes or ornamented with swirls of plants and flowers. Ancient symbols sometimes feature too: the wheel of the sun, or the cockscomb, for example.

It was on view from 13 July, until 2 September 2018. The exhibition focuses on the New York years of Hungarian painter Sam Havadtoy. His work relations with the city’s influential artists throughout the 1970s and ‘80s greatly affected his developing career as an artist.

Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross to free mankind “from the trap of its wickedness” and thereby broke the “shell of history”, Cardinal Péter Erdő, head of Hungary’s Catholic Church, told MTI in his Easter message. Cardinal Erdő, Archbishop of Budapest-Esztergom, said this divine behaviour shows history and the world in a different light.
