The National Bank of Hungary’s (MNB) controversial Pallas Athéné foundations (PADA) moved some of their endowment from government securities and bank deposits into real estate, according to the head of the investment company that manages the assets of the foundations, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Foreign citizens bought 119 residency bonds in April, up from 4 in January, 26 in February and 58 in March, the state debt manager ÁKK announced, pointing out the upward jump. In the first four months 207 residency bonds were sold, down from 241 in the same period of last year. A total of 3,565 residency bonds have been sold since they were introduced in 2013.

The number of Start accounts necessary to become eligible for “baby bonds” opened by Hungarians dropped to about 23,000 last year from 37,200 in 2014, business daily Világgazdaság said In January of this year, Start accounts were opened for just 2,021 of the 7,362 newborn Hungarians.

The promenade named after Lantos connects Viza and Révész streets. Addressing the event in the 13th district where Lantos used to live, US Ambassador Colleen Bell said Lantos had done much to benefit Hungary and had been proud of being Hungarian.
