Commission Asks Hungary To Comply With EU Legislation On Environmental Impact Assessments

The European Commission is urging Hungary to bring its national legislation on assessing the effects of projects on the environment in line with EU rules. On the recommendation of Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik, the Commission is therefore sending a reasoned opinion. In the absence of a satisfactory response within two months, the Commission may refer the case to the EU Court of Justice.
Retails Sales Down 3% In Hungary So Far This Year

This week the Hungarian Central Statistics Office (KSH) announced that local retail sales fell 2.7% - year-on-year - in March 2012. Also adjusted for seaonal effects, retail sales were down in April by 1.0% compared to the same month in 2011. Overall 2011 retail sales were slightly up on 2010 by 0.2% , rising that year for the first time since 2006.

Industrial producer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in March and were up 6.8% year-on-year, the Central Statistics Office announced. Export prices increased 0.3% month-on-month and 5.8% year-on-year, while domestic sales prices were unchanged from February, and grew 7.6% since March, 2011. Prices went up 9.2% year-on-year in the energy and manufacturing sectors.
