According to the Association of Hungarian Confectionery Manufacturers (HUNBISCO), the popularity of seasonal "salon candy" (szaloncukor) remains unbroken in Hungary, with the vast majority of people still planning to buy the traditional Christmas sweets.

In Hungary the Christmas tree is decorated on Christmas Eve, 24 December. In addition to the usual decorations, also chocolate pieces in bright wrappings are used. In the Hungarian tradition the Christmas present is brought by baby Jesus in the evening. Religious people follow the (Jesus kid) tradition and they go to the midnight mass, too.

From the end of November or beginning of December the Hungarian postal services send innumerable packages to addresses all over the world, because not a single Hungarian family living in the diaspora should have to miss out on the typical candy Christmas tree decoration or Hungarian szaloncukor.
