The Council of Europe (CoE) Committee of Experts praised Hungary in a report published on Wednesday for the increased political support of minority languages which has resulted in increased funding but noted shortcomings in minority education and language teaching, especially in the case of the Roma.

The European Commission said that it had referred Hungary to the Court of Justice of the European Union over its national mobile payment system. The exclusive right granted to stateowned company Nemzeti Mobilfizetési to provide mobile payment services is an unjustified obstacle to the provision of services in the single market, the EC said.

The European Commission said it found that a Hungarian tax on advertising is incompatible with European Union rules and ordered the country to recover taxes from companies that enjoyed an unfair advantage. The EC said the tax is in breach of EU state aid rules because its progressive tax rates grant selective advantage to certain companies.
