So many of our expats are émigrés who have come home. My husband lived for forty five years abroad but he always rejected the epithet émigré. “If you wear galoshes,” I told him looking down at his feet on a snowy New York sidewalk, “you are an émigré.”

At a time when statues are going up all over Budapest I would like to nominate a candidate for the ugliest statue in town. You should drive up above the Gellért Hotel to the corner of Minerva and Pipacs utca where the one time Swedish Legation is located.

Their pro-government counterpart denies the allegation that György Donáth was an anti-Semite, while an independent conservative author calls on the opposing sides to show more tolerance towards each other.
