Christianity and its fundamental purpose are based on the resurrection of Christ. However, no one has ever given a voice to the sole eyewitness of this epoch-making event: Mary Magdalene.
There lies the body of the Messiah before her, and in her monologue she shares her thoughts and inner turmoil with us. Mary Magdalene conjures up another possible reality, bringing to life another plausible story.
She acts in secret, as her actions and her disobedience are against the law. Before saying goodbye to her beloved forever, she relives their shared memories once more, and in doing so, reinterprets them.
She believes that He can overcome death and instil hope in people’s hearts in this cruel, violent, tyrannical world.
She has had a long, hard life, hardened by difficult experiences and vulnerability. Now she is prepared to break the law, and even to risk her own life, in order to realise her dream, which transcends the boundaries of life and common sense.
She resolves to undergo the greatest trial love could possibly face, and in those hours of agonising torment she experiences the authentic miracle of resurrection, which kindles a flame in countless hearts and continues to nourish hope to this very day.
Ignacio Garcia directed Lope de Vega’s ‘The Gardener’s Dog’ at the National Theatre, and Calderón de la Barca’s ‘The Mischievous Ghost’ in Kaposvár in 2022.
He graduated from the directing course at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Madrid; he was also awarded ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Young Director’ by the Asociación de Directores de Escena (the Spanish Association of Theatre Directors), and was the winner of the 1st Theatre Creators’ Competition organised by the Teatro Real de Madrid.
For many years, Ignacio Garcia directed the renowned Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro theatre festival, and also served as deputy artistic director at the Teatro Español in Madrid.
He is also credited with founding the Voces de la Lengua arts centre. Ignacio Garcia is also the director of DramaFest, a Mexican festival focusing on contemporary drama.
