Introducing Széchényi Thermal Baths & Swimming Pool
"One of the largest baths complexes in Europe, in the City Park (Városliget) situated in the outstanding building of Széchenyi Thermal Baths and Swimming Pool (Széchenyi Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda). This unique baths provides its visitors with miscellaneous services in an extraordinary environment in the heart of Budapest.

The baths also preserve many bathing traditions. The spacious and light pool halls evoke the bathing culture of the Romans, the tub-baths that of the Greeks. The sweat rooms, cold baths and saunas found in the various sections evoke the bathing culture of the north.

The baths are famous for their convival atmosphere. Those relaxing in the outdoor baths can often be seen playing chess on boards at the side of the pool.

The warm, sulphurous, healing waters contain sodium, calcium- and magnesium-hydrogen carbonate, and a significant content of fluoride and metaboric acid. The healing waters can be used externally as treatment for arthritic and orthopaedic illnesses.

The drinking well water in the drinking hall is sulphurous healing water with calcium- and magnesium-hydrogen carbonate, and chloride. It also contains alkalis and a significant amount of fluoride. It is recommended as treatment in cases of gastric catarrh, gastric ulcers, overproduction of gastric acid, certain forms of kidney stone illnesses, metabolism disorders causing gout, and certain illnesses of gall bladder and bile ducts.

There are 15 pools in the building, of which 3 are outdoor (a swimming pool, a fancy pool and a thermal pool) and 12 are indoor thermal pools. Most of these are group baths for bathers in swimming suits, while four are group baths for bathers in aprons (kötény). The water temperatures of the pools range between 20 and 38 degrees Centigrade.

In the baths there is a daytime outpatients hospital with a complete physiotherapy department. Visitors can choose from various treatments including healing gymnastics, underwater healing gymnastics, and carbonic acid tub-bath and salt-water tub-bath treatments.

There is also a Wellness Centre in the baths. Those interested can attend sessions including body-toning gymnastics, fat burning, weight training, and aqua aerobics. Medical healing and refreshing massage, and underwater water-beam massage, are also among services offered. The up-to-date machines of the gym provide opportunities for a daily workout to suit everyone."
