Hungarian PM Orbán Proposes Suspending Public Funding For Parties In 2013-2014
- 21 May 2012 9:00 AM
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán would like to abolish state subsidies for parties in 2013 and 2014, in light of the dire state of the budget. Orbán raised the idea at a Fidesz national council meeting on Thursday, confirmed prime ministerial spokesman Péter Szijjártó.
Removing state subsidies would crucially affect party budgets as it represents 80-90% of their revenues. Fidesz was paid more than Ft 1 billion in state subsidies last year.
