Xpat Opinion: Experts Forecast Mass Poverty, Civil Unrest In Hungary
Experts predict civil insurgance in Hungary, according to media reports, after even the remnants of the middle class are sliding into poverty. As much as 31 percent of Hungarian society was considered poor in 2011, Eurostat reported, making it the 5th poorest country in the EU.

The number of Hungarians effectively starving is 1-2 million, as every fourth citizen questioned revealed having problems just obtaining food. Another poll asking about savings indicated that only every fifth household has any.

Analysts warn that the lack of jobs is forcing families to rely on benefits. However the government plans to slash social security to drive workers back to their non-existant workplaces.

Experts added the situation could escalate into civil unrest not unlike the one in Slovakia, when those in hopeless poverty revolted to demand a better life.
