Merkel Visit To Hungary “Important Message”, Says University Head
German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visiting Budapest’s Andrássy University during an official visit to Hungary next Monday sends an important message, András Masát, the head of the university, said. Masát noted that Merkel will visit the Budapest university, the only German-language university outside German-speaking areas, for the second time.

He also said that both the German embassy in Budapest and the Hungarian embassy in Berlin had recommended Andrássy University as an institute for the chancellor to visit as part of her programme in Hungary, and interpreted the gesture as a “sign of recognition”.

Following talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and President János Áder, Merkel is scheduled to give a lecture at Andrássy University on Monday afternoon.

After the lecture, the chancellor will meet about 100 students from Hungarian universities. Andrássy University was founded in 2001, and has been supported by Germany. It currently has some 200 students from European countries.
