President Urges Hungarians To Pull Together To Restore Damaged Forests
- 16 Jan 2015 3:00 AM
President János Áder has called on Hungarian citizens and public media to pull together and help restore the country’s woods and forests which were recently ravaged by freezing rain. The president’s office said that Áder had met the head of the country’s forestry association, who briefed him about the massive damage to trees in December in the country and the environmental clean-up that has taken place over the past 6 weeks.
Péter Zámbó told the president that altogether 34,000 hectares of forests must be restored. The damage is of such an extent that, besides moderate state support, the only way to make an impact is if ordinary Hungarians pull together, he said.
