Plans Revealed For Budapest’s New Mega Tram Garage
The present building of the Budafok tram garage, located in Buda’s suburban Albertfalva neighbourhood on the boundary of Districts XI and XXII, is to be replaced by a spectacular, ultra-modern complex soon.

The condition of the existing structure, built in 1899, has deteriorated so badly that its reconstruction would not pay off; therefore, it will be torn down to give space to a completely new building. The tram garage will house some of Budapest’s new Spanish-made CAF trams, the first of which will arrive to the Hungarian capital in March.

The remise’s track network will be completely redeveloped and new storage areas and an office block will be built and the nearby tram stop will be renovated and made accessible to wheelchair users.

A modern washing device which almost completely reuses the waste water it generates will also be installed.

The development, which will begin in spring 2015 and is expected to take a year, is funded by the European Union.
