Freedom House Ranks Hungary ‘Free’ Democracy In 2016 Report
Hungary is ranked as a “free” democracy in Freedom House’s 2016 democracy report released on Wednesday. In its Freedom in the World 2016 report, FH noted Hungary’s tightening of migration laws which curtail the ability of refugees to seek asylum in the country as a reason to downgrade its freedom score.

The report also insisted that Hungary’s media environment continued to deteriorate and “large-scale government corruption” has affected commercial activity and competition.

The report evaluated the state of freedom in 195 countries and 15 territories in 2015.

Hungary received an aggregate freedom score of 79 out of 100, where top score of a 100 indicates the freest democracy. Last year Hungary scored 82 points.
