We can be rightly proud of our capital since it is admired for its beauty by many all around the world. It’s not just the alloyage of its colourful architecture or bridges but also the versatile opportunities the city offers to those looking for entertainment.

Lobu.hu collected some places that would be perfect for a night out. Most people like coffee, tea and savoury or sweet pastries, or to have a nice lunch while talking to a friend or your date. If you want to celebrate something, or make an occasion special, by choosing a high-standard place, then a confectionery or restaurant that reminds you of former times could be a perfect choice. Listed below are some traditional restaurants and confectioneries that have a lot of history and are very famous all around the world.

Gerbeaud Confectionery

When Emil Gerbeaud moved to Budapest in 1884, he was blown away by the shop found in Gizella Square (now Vörösmarty Square) and bought is from Henrik Kugler. He won a gold medal with his products at the World Exhibition of 1898 and 1900 thus getting acknowledged on behalf of the Hungarian confectionery industry.

The confectionery works with the best ingredients and offers unforgettable culinary experiences to its visitors. Their homemade ice cream cups, pastries and all desserts enchant you and make everyone return who once tried them. The imposing building evokes the middle of the 1800s not only with its exterior but also with its interior design.

Városliget Café & Restaurant

If you visit the City Park make sure to come round the Városliget Café & Restaurant. The place guards the romance of Budapest. The café and restaurant can be found on the coast of the City Park Lake with a breath-taking panorama of the lake and the Vajdahunyad Castle. You can also watch the skaters in winter and those who want to try rowing in summer, while trying out the specialties of the place such as the Liget coffee (Park coffee) that evokes the happy peacetime.

We can also have delicious pastries, ice cream cups, the classic Sacher cake or the Hungarian sponge cake (somlói galuska) with our coffee. However, if you’d like to try something extraordinary then lobu.hu recommends either the white chocolate cake with pistachio and raspberry ice cream or the caramel cake with apricot schnapps. The City Park is one of the most magical places in Budapest and it’s just great to get into a place like this after a long walk in the park.

Daubner Confectionery

The confectionery, which was built in 1901, is the specialist of cakes, pastries and ice creams. The shop, which was founded by Béla Daubner in Orosháza, was only socialized after the world wars and only the third generation was able to open the family business in our capital. It’s not only a place of sweetness; they also have Irish beers, capsule coffee and noble wines. Even though the confectionery is not as nicely designed as to sit there for hours, this lack is compensated by the wide range of variety.

Auguszt Confectionery

This is one of the oldest and most tarnished confectionaries in Budapest. Elek Auguszt opened his shop that became famous for its quality and specialties in 1870. Later his son, József took over the management and opened a new shop on Krisztina Boulevard. The family business of four generations perfected its professional experience. Besides guarding traditions they also use new methods and ingredients. They prioritise the importance of guarding traditions and hand work. The confectioners emphasize precise work, excellent ingredients and the knowledge of their profession.
