State May Confiscate Lapsed Properties
The government will file a bill granting the state the right to confiscate properties whose ownership records may have lapsed, PMO leader János Lázár announced at his weekly press conference.

Authorities will try to reach listed owners who were born before 1902, or their heirs. If they are not found then the state will take over the property.

These assets will be used by local governments or sold to tenants depending on the decisions by local councils.

Of the 18.3 million property records in Hungary, 1.8 million are missing at lest one of four essential items of data: the name, residence, birthdate and the address of the owner, Lázár said.
