Hungarian Opinion: School Reopening Partially Postponed
On Thursday, Prime Minister Orbán announced that classroom education will resume on Monday for only the first 4 classes of primary school children. Students in the 5th grade and above will continue to learn online until May 10.

Portfolio comments on the Prime Minister’s announcement, that the government is walking a tightrope as it tries to restart the economy and end the lockdown as fast as possible.

The leading online business media outlet thinks that Prime Minister Orbán adapted his earlier decision to allow all elementary classes to restart on 19 April, on the advice of medical experts.

Portfolio nonetheless fears that another wave of the pandemic could sweep the country, as the virus may still spread fast among junior pupils.

Citing experts, Portfolio adds that a hasty reopening is not a good idea, since even a partial lifting of restrictions may significantly slow down the decline in new infections.
