70 Charged in Hungarian Government Office Corruption Case
Charges have been pressed at the Capital Court of dereliction of duty and accepting bribes as part of a criminal organisation by 70 government office officials.

Prosecutors say a Budapest man whose duty was to issue technical permits for the conversion and composition of vehicles and officially supervise county testing stations responsible for the technical evaluation of vehicles ensured unscheduled and favourable assessment to certain clients for cash.

He is accused of regularly accepting bribes during 2014-18.

The official allegedly informed other officials at testing stations in advance about the date of planned check-ups.

The officials regularly relayed cash to a further nine defendants working as supervisors “for conducting favourable check-ups”.

Prosecutors proposed in the indictment that the court sentence 43 of the defendants to prison terms.
