Sale of Budapest Airport Moves Closer
The owners of Budapest Airport have initiated a due diligence procedure with the Hungarian government, majority owner AviAlliance announced, in what is a possible first step towards selling the airport.

AviAlliance also confirmed that a consortium led by the Hungarian government had submitted a revised, non-binding takeover bid for the airport.

AviAlliance said the Hungarian government had accepted its conditions for the start of formal negotiations, so it decided to start the screening process.

“While this is potentially the first step towards selling the airport, we want to emphasise that the outcome of the process is not predetermined, the document said.

According to market rumours, the government is willing to pay up to €4.4 billion for Budapest Airport.

Earlier reports said that MOL and Dániel Jellinek, head of the Indotek group, would be part of the bidding consortium.
