Phone Replacement Scheme Starts in Hungary
Owners of obsolete 2G and 3G mobile phones can buy 4G-capable devices with a state subsidy of Ft 20,000 from February 14, the media and telecoms authority MEKH announced on Wednesday.

The subsidy only supports purchases up to Ft 120,000.

The MEKH initiated the programme – which has a Ft 5 billion budget – because, according to market expectations and statements from mobile operators, 3G technology is expected to be phased out in Hungary between the first half of 2022 and 2023.

Nearly 700 shops of almost 50 retail chains will exchange new phones for old ones. The list is available on the website of the programme at the International Development and Fund Co-ordination Agency (NFFKÜ) and from February 14 on the NMHH website Netrefel.hu.
