Online Retail Sales Up 32% Last Year in Hungary
Online retail sales in Hungary increased 32% to HUF 1.203 trillion last year, according to research by GKI Digital and price comparison site arukereso.hu.

The pace of growth slowed from 45% in 2020, but the market still expanded at twice the rate before the pandemic. Online sales accounted for a little over 10% of total retail sales in Hungary.

Hungarians now make 19-20 purchases online a year, up from 12-13 before the pandemic.

Of the 6.5 million active Hungarian adult internet users, 5.1 million browse webshops online and 3.7 million make purchases, arukereso.hu managing director Csaba Rácz said.

The research shows consumers in the capital and Pest County account for close to half of all online retail turnover.

Electronics accounted for the highest online retail turnover, followed by clothing, toys and gifts, and FMCG products.
