Budapest City Council Approves Higher Taxi Fares
Taxi fares will increase in Budapest from May 9, when the basic fee will increase from Ft 700 to Ft 1,000, the per kilometre fee from Ft 300 to Ft 400, and the per minute fee from Ft 75 to Ft 100, city council decided yesterday.

The decision to raise fares was passed unanimously.

The adopted proposal stated that the increase was due to a combination of the significant increase in fuel prices since the last tariffs and the increases in inflation and the minimum wage.

Deputy mayor Kiss Ambrus said the tariff increase reflects a compromise reached in negotiations initiated by taxi organisations.

The new rules also ease requirements for bankcard payments, tighten controls on taxi drivers and ease regulations for picking up passengers.
