Voters in Hungary Support Windfall Taxes, Századvég Survey Finds
Fully 79% of respondents in a recent Századvég survey expressed support for the government’s decision to levy a supertax on companies making extra profits to finance the government’s public utility cuts programme, the pollster said in Thursday.

According to the Századvég report, 89% of respondents blame the war in Ukraine, 90% the energy crisis, 79% European sanctions, and 77% for large companies raising their prices in anticipation of steeper inflation.

Fully 71% said the EU’s energy and tax policy contributed to increasing inflation pressure, while 67% also blamed the US government’s policies.

The majority of respondents, 84%, “expect companies making extra profits in a war situation to help the Hungarian people and contribute to Hungary’s defence spending”, the pollster said.
