Record Low Water Level at Lake Velence
The water level of Lake Velence shrank to 61cm at Agárd yesterday, the lowest figure recorded since measuring began in 1939, national water management authority OVF announced.

Like Lake Balaton, the ebbing of Lake Velence is continuing due to the hot, sunny and dry weather, as is again forecast for this week.

The average water level of Lake Balaton is 82cm. A drop in the Balaton water level over the next week is expected to continue and the average water level is expected to shrink to 73-80cm by September 1.

This water level is nothing extraordinary, as the average was 39cm on August 1, 2003 and 102cm on August 1 of last year.

At present there are no water quality problems on Lake Balaton, the OVG said.
