Rules on Hiring Foreign Medical Staff to be Relaxed in Hungary
A new package of legislative proposals would make it possible to hire doctors, pharmacists and nurses arriving in Hungary, and would abolish the foreign-language proficiency requirement for entering university.

The package of proposals submitted in the name of deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjen has been posted on the website of Parliament.

The proposal – presumably in connection with refugees arriving from Ukraine, Telex observes – creates the terms for physicians, dentists and pharmacists arriving in Hungary from abroad to join the Hungarian healthcare system, which has a staff shortage, as quickly as possible.

Immigrant doctors, dentists and pharmacists would be first required to work for a year under supervision with an accredited healthcare provider. Nurses could expect similar regulations.

On another area, the proposal would allow universities to determine what language skills they require from students and will be able to organise the necessary courses.

The 70-year age limit for hiring instructors and researchers will be abolished at universities financed by church, private or public interest foundations.

The Gabor Denes College in Budapest will become a university of applied sciences under the name Gabor Denes University from February 1, 2023.

Special regulations will apply to the National Public Service University with regard to who may be hired as instructors.
