The index is designed to reflect corruption on a scale of 0-100. The more points a country has, the less corrupt it is.
Just as last year, Hungary had 42 points, followed by Bulgaria with 45 and Romania with 46.
According to the global survey of 180 countries, Hungary is in the middle of the field, in 76th place, along with Cuba, Bahrain, Moldova and North Macedonia.
Denmark leads the transparency list with 90 points ahead of Finland with 87.
Hungary was assigned its best result in 2007 when it was 39th in the world in terms of transparency.
Head of Transparency Hungary József Péter Martin pointed out that not only has Hungary achieved the worst ranking in the EU, but its rating has deteriorated more than that of any other country in the last 11 years, losing a total of 13 points.
