François Sparkling Wines from Hungary Win Gold at Mundus Vini
Hungarian sparkling wines François President Brut and François President Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2018 won gold medals at one of the world's most prestigious wine competitions, Mundus Vini in Germany this February.

The latter has the distinction of having been exclusively produced for the Michelin-starred Babel Budapest restaurant, which adds to its exclusivity and prestige. François is also one of the most long-established domestic sparkling wine wineries - 138 years - and a real speciality among enthusiasts.

Only the products of Törley Pezsgőpintészet were able to win in the sparkling wine category among the Hungarian sparkling wine houses at Mundus Vini, according to a press release.

This year, no fewer than 250 wine experts from 55 countries tasted the nominated bottles at the town hall in Neustadt. There was no shortage of entries either, with more than 10,000 bottles from 45 countries presented to the judges.

"This victory is the fruit of many years of work, knowledge, patience and attention. And, of course, you need the raw materials to make these sumptuous and immersive sparkling wines. And we believe that our vineyards in Etyek produce the best and finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in the country, which are suitable for making these treasures," said Róbert Koczuba, Törley's sparkling wine master.

"It has been endlessly exciting and inspiring to work with Törley Winery. We have strived to create a bold and unique speciality that will be a great pleasure to taste and will stay with you for a long time. The François President Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2018 is the result of an extraordinary work and we are really proud of it", emphasized Norbert Nádházi, head sommelier of Babel Budapest.

The history of François sparkling wines goes back 138 years. Louis François and Cézar François, the founders of the company, were the youngest members of an old family of champagne masters hailing from the region of the same name in France.

Louis first arrived in Hungary to work as a master at József Törley's Winery, followed a few years later by his younger brother Cézar. Louis left Törley to set up his own business with his brother, founding Louis François & Co.
