Energy Drink Makers Suspected of False Claims in Hungary
Competition watchdog GVH has launched an investigation into the Hungarian energy drink association MESZ for possibly misleading consumers in its promotional campaigns.

Since October 2023, MESZ has made claims about the health benefits of energy drinks, such as their high B-vitamin content and positive effects of caffeine on skin, hair, and weight management.

The advertisements claimed that one can of energy drink contains as much vitamin B as 3.6 kilograms of carrots, 1.7 kilograms of broccoli, or 2 kilograms of spinach.

The promotion advised users that they could safely consume five cans a day, and even suggested that energy drink consumption could reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.

The GVH is investigating whether these claims are backed by factual evidence.
