Summer Festival: RockBalaton, Fonyód, 8 - 11 August
For four days between August 8 and 11, Fonyód (southern shore of Lake Balaton) will be the summer capital of rock on Lake Balaton:the RockBalaton Festival will be held again, attracting fans of the music genre year after year.

For four days, from late afternoon until late evening, the greatest stars of the Hungarian rock music scene and the best up-and-coming rock bands will be playing in Fonyód, writes Turizmus.com.

Among the performers will be Joe Rudán, former member of Pokolgép, P. Mobil and Mobilmánia, who will come to Fonyód with his own band and the best songs of his illustrious career.

The Alvin és a Mókusok‘s busy concert schedule this year includes the first day of RockBalaton, hence the Nyíregyháza (North-Eastern Hungary) punks will blow up the stage in Fonyód.

Omen and Moby Dick will also take the stage. The last day of the festival will also have some rock music delicacies in store, as Szekeres és Barbaro will kick off the early evening concert program, followed by A Király halott, a relatively young band.

There will be no lack of rock legends at the festival, as RockBalaton is the stop on the P. Mobil 50+ tour.

This year’s RockBalaton will close with a concert by the iconic Hungarian heavy metal band Pokolgép.

This year’s 25-year-old Depresszió will close the concert day on August 8, who created an amazing atmosphere at the festival last year, and the audience can expect the same in 2024.

Last year, Acélszív was a huge hit, and this year Ossian will be no less successful, adding to the list of acts on day three. In addition, Nemzeti Hang and Aurora will take the stage on August 9.

The number one representative of national rock, Kárpátia, will be back in the summer capital of rock, as they will also perform on the third day of RockBalaton on August 10.

In addition to the greats of rock, emerging talents will also take to the stage at RockBalaton, which was awarded the Festival of the Year 2019 title.

Children under the age of 14 can enter the festival area free of charge again this year, with parental supervision. The event is family-friendly and, based on past experience, an increasing number of people are coming with young children and families.

RockBalaton is not just for fans of the genre, as for years now it has been a common feature that many people come to the four-day festival days in advance and turn it into a week-long holiday.

This year, the organizers are expecting the same, as it is difficult to book rooms in Fonyód a month before the event, but festival-goers are also keen to stay in the surrounding villages.

It is interesting to note that the festival’s main stage is designed to leave as small an ecological footprint as possible.

RockBalaton was the first of the big festivals to introduce the so-called “re-cup” (repohár, a reusable cup), which this year will be given as a gift to season ticket holders upon entry. And not empty, of course, because every festival-goer with a season ticket is the organizers’ guest for a pint of beer.

Appearing online long after XpatLoop.com this ‘government related’ source states its aim as "to provide a complete, unbiased picture of Hungary”. It continues by acknowledging this “does not necessarily mean that our writers do not have their own opinions, sometimes reflected to a degree in the articles they publish” - and so it's really worth readers here keeping that in mind. Another stated aim is to become ‘the leading English-language news portal of Hungary’, a position held for well over 20 years by good old independent XpatLoop!
