Award-Winning Films to be Shown at this Year's Francophone Film Days in Budapest
Twenty-three films, including works that have already been successful at the world's largest festivals, are being screened at the 15th Francophone Film Days, which will be held at the Uránia National Film Theatre and the French Institute between February 27 and March 9.

The festival, organized by the French Institute in Hungary, opens with Guillaume Nicloux's film The Divine Sarah Bernhardt, which received two César nominations and stars Sandrine Kiberlain in the lead role.

Sarah Bernhardt is one of the greatest stage stars of her time, the world's first superstar, and at the same time a free and modern-spirited woman who bravely defies social expectations and norms, the film's description reads.

One of the most important works of the film days is Jacques Audiard's film Emilia Pérez. The work, which has already won an award at Cannes, received 12 César nominations and 13 Oscar nominations, making film history: no non-English language work has ever received so many nominations, the organizers emphasized.

The 91-year-old Costa-Gavras's film The Last Breath, starring Denis Podalydes, Kad Merad and Charlotte Rampling, debuted in the competition program of the San Sebastián International Film Festival. According to the description, in the film, a doctor and a writer embark on a sensitively philosophical, bittersweet journey into the depths of human existence.

Also at the San Sebastián Film Festival, François Ozon's latest film, When Autumn Comes, won the Best Screenplay award. The dramatic work depicts the struggles of a single father, Pierre, who watches in bewilderment as his son joins far-right groups.

The Francophone Film Days will feature the drama Playing with Fire, for which Vincent Lindont won the Best Actor award at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival.

According to the organizers, the Romanian-Serbian-North Macedonian-Bosnia-Herzegovina-Swiss-Swedish historical drama Malmkrog, which won the Best Direction award in the Encounters section at the 2020 Berlinale, promises to be a real curiosity.

The audience will also be able to see the Belgian-French-Congolese drama The Curse, which won the " New Voice " award in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.

The festival program also includes the Swiss-French comedy film Dog Trial.
