Organic Food Market Grows in Hungary, Average Spend Per Person is Low
Hungary's organic food market was worth HUF 38.7bn in 2024, growing from HUF 28.5bn in 2022, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (OMKi) told MTI, citing data from NielsenIQ.

OMKi noted that the NielsenIQ data did not cover shops specialising in organic food or farmers markets and, using data from the Central Statistics Office, estimated that the entire organic food market accounted for 0.8pc-1pc of Hungary's retail food market.

Hungary's organic food market expanded 19pc between 2022 and 2023, the NielsenIQ data show, well over the 3pc growth rate for Europe as a whole. However, the average spending rate per person on organic food was EUR 66/year for all of Europe, compared to just EUR 10 in Hungary.
