Updated: Zwack Unicum Profit Reaches HUF 3.0 Billion in 2024/2025 Business Year in Hungary
After-tax profit of Zwack Unicum, Hungary's biggest spirits maker, edged up 3pc to HUF 3.0bn in its business year ended March 31, an earnings report released shows.

Sales, net of excise tax and a DRS deposit fee, climbed 7pc to HUF 24.1bn.

Operating costs rose at a faster clip, increasing 15pc to HUF 11.7bn.

Zwack said domestic sales in the fourth quarter of its business year had fallen close to 14pc because of the later Easter holiday and a country-wide slack in consumption due, in part, to higher-than-expected inflation.

Zwack raised its prices by 4.7pc, on average, from January 1, 2025, following a 4.1pc excise tax hike and dearer feedstock prices because of the weaker forint.

Shareholders of Zwack Unicum, Hungary's biggest spirits maker, approved payment of a HUF 1,500-per-share dividend on earnings from the business year ended March 31 at an annual general meeting on Wednesday, Zwack said after the AGM.

The dividend fund comes to HUF 3.052bn.

Zwack shareholders approved a HUF 1,400-per-share dividend at the AGM a year earlier.

Complaint About "Underhand" Sale of Vodafone Hungary Filed by Socialist Party

The Socialist Party is filing a complaint to the authorities in connection with the "underhand" sale of Vodafone to a state-owned fund which "recorded a loss of around 13 billion forints [EUR 31.3m]" during the sale of the telecommunications company in the period of less than a year, and the opposition alleges that the state exchanged high-value shares for ones of lower value in opaque transactions that produced losses seriously detrimental to national interests.
