Urban Upgrades: Summer Renovations of Roads & Utilities Completed in Budapest
Many roads, bridges and tram lines in the capital have been reconstructed this summer, and new buses and trams have been put into service, mayor Gergely Karacsony said in a Youtube video.

He said the renovation and maintenance work had been timed to be completed before school starts to the greatest extent possible.

The city's road maintenance company repaired around 4,000 potholes, carried out asphalting on 42,000 sqms, repaired over 300 zebra crossings, repainted road markings on 23,000 sqms and created 350ms of new bicycle lanes. The tracks on several major tram lines have been reconstructed.

In the summer, eleven new low-floor, air-conditioned CAF trams and 25 new Mercedes buses have been put into service, and dozens of old buses will be replaced in the coming months.

The Budapest Waterworks reconstructed 1.5kms of water pipelines and fixed 2,000 defective pipes in recent months.

The city's district heating company started essential developments and maintenance work in May to ensure the continuous, safe and energy-efficient operation of the district heating system. The Budapest Public Utilities Company completed upgrades worth 3 billion forints (7.6 million euros) across the capital, the mayor added.
